deviceWISE: Enterprise Connectivity
deviceWISE provides an industry leading portfolio of enterprise communication protocols. deviceWISE has two types of communication, database communication, and message based communication. Both communication types are performed by a direct connection from deviceWISE to the enterprise server with no other applications or proxies in-between.
Database Communication
deviceWISE provides direct database communication via standard drivers provided by database vendors. deviceWISE systems support many database operations such as INSERT, UPDATE, SELECT, DELETE, and COUNT on any supported database. deviceWISE also has the ability to support executing stored procedures on the remote database.
deviceWISE offers a powerful framework for enumerating the metadata for database tables such as the column name, type, size, as well as special attributes, such as "required" and "not null" flags. Enumerating the metadata for the database reduces development time by allowing the user to simply map the enumerated columns instead of manually entering all of the column information.
Message Based Communication
Large companies typically use an enterprise messaging system to communicate between different applications such as SCADA, MES and ERP systems. deviceWISE integrates directly to the ESB (Enterprise Service Bus) to integrate plant floor events directly into the business systems.
The deviceWISE framework provides a powerful set of data formatting extensions, enabling customers to integrate deviceWISE enabled products to existing systems seamlessly. Examples of the types of message that can be sent are ASCII delimited, XML, binary, or a custom format. For JMS based messaging protocols, JMS mapped messages are also available.
deviceWISE can help you integrate industry standard messaging such as ISA-88 for batch processing and ISA-95 for process control. As manufacturers try to integrate data from all parts of their plant, as well as from their suppliers, it has become a business necessity to support common standards to reduce the amount of custom work that must be done to integrate a new data source.
