Embedded versions of deviceWISE are treated like appliances, not applications. When you purchase a deviceWISE embedded solution like the MESInterfaceIT or the xCoupler modules, you are not buying an application, you are buying a hardware appliance. As such, deviceWISE supports controlling platform specific settings to enable all aspects of the hardware platform to be managed through the Workbench.

deviceWISE offers full control over a hardware module's network interfaces. This allows you to configure the networking via the Workbench, and eliminates needing to use other applications, or to install a keyboard / monitor / mouse to configure it manually.

When correlating data from multiple sources in a manufacturing environment, one of the main sources of input is the timestamp that certain events occur. It is important for embedded devices to keep accurate time, and many embedded systems are notorious for having inaccurate clocks.

As such, deviceWISE offers the ability to control the time, time-zone, and especially the time synchronization with NTP and SNTP time servers through the Workbench. Furthermore, deviceWISE lets you schedule exactly when the time sync should occur, allowing you to guarantee that the clocks won't change during production.

Firmware Updates

deviceWISE products offer a comprehensive firmware update feature that allows users to add functionality over time without costly hardware replacements. As industry specifications and market requirements evolve, so can your application. With a single click you can update your module with the latest product updates and new features.

Installable Packages

While firmware updates can be used to update "core" functionality in the deviceWISE family of products, packages allow customers to install special drivers and features that are not part of their product's standard distribution. On embedded installations, a minimal set of drivers comes pre-installed on most deviceWISE appliances, however, you can easily enable additional functionality by installing the appropriate package file.

The ability to install packages to provide additional device connectivity and trigger functions enables the deviceWISE family of products to evolve with the industry, without constantly updating the firmware of the product.
