Since the launch of International Sematech’s e-Manufacturing initiative, the semiconductor industry has begun a journey to go beyond the productivity improvements of shrinking line widths and expanding wafer sizes. The journey begins by improving the fab’s productivity through collaborative knowledge sharing via internet access between fab equipment and engineers. ILS Technology’s eCentre® solution provides a third party neutral secure collaborative environment direct from the equipment on the factory floor to engineers located virtually anywhere in the world.

Secure Remote Connectivity
eCentre has been designed to meet the ISMT e-diagnostic guidelines which enable secure collaboration between equipment and personnel located within or external to a fab. eCentre is comprised of several software components that work in concert with the eCentre Application to enable a collaborative session between fab equipment and one or more users via the eCentre client. The eCentre Application is the main processor for services such as authentication and authorization, file transfer capabilities, remote equipment operations, data flow, data storage, decision logic, and real-time collaboration (chat).

Fits Any Business Model
eCentre can be deployed in one of two business models; eCentre Fab-Wide, and eCentre ILS-owned. eCentre ILS-owned is based on the emerging software utility model, where the buyer pays a monthly charge based on the connections to an onsite secured eCentre application server. This product offering is best suited for OEM’s or ICM’s that plan to scale their e-Manufacturing environment over an uncertain timeframe and would rather pay for the application as an expense rather then a capital acquisition. The business model is quickly gaining acceptance in the software industry, with companies such as Siebel, Oracle, and Microsoft embracing the software as a service model. eCentre Fab-Wide is a more traditional software product offering where the buyer purchases a server application outright and an annual service contract thereafter. This model is a better fit for customers that have a clear idea of how many tools they will provide access to and wish to make a capital investment up front.
